Honda Civic Revealed In Prototype Form, It's All Sophisticated Now - ClickLancashire

This update has certainly added a more sophisticated look to the auto. Honda has told us the new design is meant to make the Civic look lower and wider than before, despite being nearly identical in size to its predecessor.

Honda has not disclosed any details with respect to the interiors and the drivetrain options.

Honda has revealed the next-generation Civic for the first time, showcasing a prototype of the saloon variant that will go on sale in the United States next year.

The prototype of the new Honda Civic mirrors almost every detail we first saw in leaked patent images, but gives us a clearer look at some design highlights.

Meanwhile, the headlamps have a sleeker shape and are less upswept than before, with each cluster sporting an L-shaped daytime running light signature up top - three lighting elements are also seen.

From the side, the new Civic prioritises smooth lines and flat surfaces over the creases of the current model, joined by a C-pillar trim design which has a striking resemblance to the not-for-Australia Cadillac CT5. This auto is finished in Solar Flare Pearl paint and includes 19-inch black wheels, both of which Honda will eventually offer on the production vehicle.

Inside, the cabin has also been similarly updated; Honda tried its hardest to de-clutter the interior and make it as ergonomic as possible, and the result is a clean and minimalist space the brand hopes will be a hit with younger buyers. A freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen taking pride of place on what is an otherwise minimalistic dashboard. So there is a simple yet tasteful layout, highlighted by the full-width honeycomb mesh detailing that hides the AC vents. The makers, however, have claimed that the 2021 Civic looks wider and lower than before.

New safety features include an upgraded Honda Sensing suite, new airbag designs. However, Honda has yet to confirm any of the car's measurements.

The next-generation of the America's bestseller will be available in Sedan (late spring 2021), Hatchback, "warm" Si and "hot" Type R versions. The two-door Civic Coupe, however, has been discontinued. All-wheel-drive is rumoured to be in the works, but a slim chance for the Australian market.

Honda is a brand that excels with technology, and that hasn't changed with the new Civic, with this vehicle boasting a suite of upgraded driver-assist Honda Sensing technology. A hatchback will follow at a later date.

When will the 2022 Honda Civic come to Australia?

And the Type R? Even as automakers, including Honda, unveil more crossover SUVs and some even drop sedan models altogether, the Civic remains crucial to Honda's success.
